Learn from Textbooks
Textbooks are a fantastic beginner guide and reference material but they are usually slim on details and quite out of date. However, the general background knowledge doesn't change that much and these are a good starting point. You can find textbooks in a library, from a University library or even buy them cheap from webpages or students who have finished the course.
There are some free online textbooks as well that are searchable. They are located in NCBI Bookshelf.
Here's a tip, if you are looking at an abstract in pubmed and you don't understand a term, clink on 'links' (upper right) and select books. It will highlight words in the abstract with links to NCBI Bookshelf and you can read up.
